Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadow [Review]

By heylinni - 4:46 PM

It's time I introduced to you one of my favourite products at the moment. I received the Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadow from a great friend, as a birthday present early this year and it’s quickly become one of my essentials in the make up bag. It’s a nice staple to have, and of high quality since it’s more on the mid-high end of makeup products and comes from a respectable brand.
Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow
Clinique is a New York makeup and beauty company, owned by the Estée Lauder Corporation. It’s very clean-cut, minimalistic and refreshing in terms of branding. Though not exactly your Chanel or Dior of beauty products, Clinique is effective in terms of quality and application, and kind to our wallets as well.

I’m reviewing the Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadow today, which is a soft shimmer shadow in #203 Beige shimmer shade. The Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadow is made in Italy and has a weight of around 2.2g. It comes in a beautiful, simple box with light, floral patterns and the brand name on the front. According to the box, it is allergy tested, 100% fragrance free and also ophthalmologist tested, so it’s been cleared for safe use by professionals. This is important to me because sometimes you can get really cheap makeup in China, but the reason it’s so cheap is because it can be dangerous to use!

The little palette is very minimalistic with it's lid being a mirror that you can use to apply makeup. Though it's probably easier to open it up and use the inside mirror, which is just as large. The overall impression of this packaging is positive, since it feels much more classy than coloured plastic boxing (which I like, but sometimes a change is good as well).

When you open it up, the inside is compartmentalised nicely, with the eyeshadow powder at the top and the brush at the bottom. There's a plastic covering which has a groove to fit the brush, but so the powder is maintained neatly and protected. The mirror is really good because you can actually use it, and it's not just there for aesthetics. Sometimes, you get mirrors that are so small that you can see anything in them, so this one is pretty decent hahahah

My only little issue with the Clinique colour surge eye shadow was that when I received it, part of the powder was already fragmented. Not sure, maybe it's because the box is too fragile...? Not a big deal, and could just be because the transportation of it was a little bumpy.

The Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow is a beautiful, neutral shade, with a subtle shimmer that makes your eyes look a little sparklier than usual, but it doesn't do much to stand out. It's very light coloured and blends well with the skin, so it can act as a highlighter as well, for the brow bone or parts of the face you want to be mildly brighter.

It's application is really smooth and effective. It comes off quite silkily onto the little brush and immediately transfers to the applied area. You don't get TOO much still sticking to the brush. However, in photographs you won't see much of a difference at all, so it's best to use this as a base for the eyelid, if you want to wear eyeliner, but not eyeshadow. I personally find it a strange look when I wear eyeliner without eyeshadow, because it seems somehow, incomplete. So, I always tend to use this shimmer to soften the look on the eyes and prepare them for other eye makeup.

You can see in the pic below that it really doesn't show up at all. But it has smoothed out the colour at my eyelids and made them look a little brighter, shimmery and lighter.

But you can see a closer up swatch in the pic below. The area that the Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadow has been applied is highlighted by the dashed circle. It definitely adds that pearl sheen to the skin.

So when I've got the full makeup on, you might not actually notice it but it's one of those things that is essential yet no one really knows that it's there. It makes the smallest of differences but is very effective in completing a look. For me, I feel unfinished or bare without eyeshadows but I also want to stay very natural and neutral, so this is a great, subtle touch.

My overall thoughts on the Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadow are very positive and I always make sure to have it in my makeup bag. It has a really subtle, neutral effect that some people might not prefer, but I like that it keeps me looking neutral, whilst shimmering up the eyes. I think it's a great quality eye shadow, as expected from Clinique.

I’m pretty sure that this particular product was exclusive, however, you can find Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadows (same eye shadow) in a dual palette on Ebay or Amazon. They have a huge range of shades so you can find the perfect one to suit your skin tones. Furthermore, I’d encourage you to check out Clinique’s new ranges of eye shadow palettes on their official website, because as this Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadow has proved to be of high quality, it should follow that the rest of their products will be satisfying as well.

And since I know that you guys are used to me posting reviews about more affordable products (such as Etude House) for a 16-24 female audience, it’s probably a little less appealing to buy this simply because it’s not in the budget. But I assure you guys that the Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadows are a worthwhile buy and a product that will be put to good use (I use it every time I apply makeup!). Plus, as a treat, I’ve found this great website where you can get deals and awesome discounts on all sorts of items, including the best deals for beauty items. It’s called Cuponation and all you have to do is input a brand, and they’ll show all the possible deals or coupon codes for that particular shop. I’ve been using it more often now, since I’m a big online spender so I need some sort of saving through special coupons for beauty items to cut down on my expenses. For example, right now, I’ve found that for Clinique coupons or free samples with any order. That’s, for sure, making the purchase seem a little more worth it because of all the extras that you’ll get. Also, if you’re looking for any other online brands, it could be beneficial to peruse through Cuponation, since they have some good discounts for ASOS, The Iconic and Style Tread stuff as well J

And that concludes my review for the Clinique Colour Surge Eye shadow in #203 beige shimmer. Let me know what your favourite beauty brands are in the comments below!

I think it isn't really worth the price.
